Mike (the Girl) Legenthal
Keith Shapiro Memorial AwardAt BluesShout this year, I was honored to win the most important award I've ever received. The BluesShout committee wrote, "With this award, we honor the memory of our dear friend and community leader, Keith Shapiro. This award embodies all of the other awards at once. The winner of this award is someone who is dedicated to growing their local community as well as the larger national community. They put on events. They study and appreciate the music, the culture, the history, and also the modern interpretations of blues dance. They are dedicated to their own dancing and continued learning. They show commitment to growth and the true spirit of blues - expression, creativity, and community. Anyone is eligible for this prize, but likely candidates are teachers and organizers." The blues community submitted nominations, then voted. I am humbled and honored.
