It's official! Dan Rosenthal and I are starting up a local-class venture called Living History Dance School. Our first workshop and series will start in June, so feel free to hop on over to our page, and join the fun!
FAQs
What is Lindy Hop? Lindy hop is a partnered , improvised swing dance that originated in the late 1920's and early 1930's. It's danced to a variety of jazz music, and can vary wildly in tempo. Check out the Lindy Hop Videos page for examples!
What age group typically takes the classes? While most of our students are college students or young professionals, we have quite a wide age range. For novice dancers, the activity level is the same as a brisk walk, or maybe a light jog.
When I see lindy in the movies, there are all sorts of trick and flips- will we be doing those? In choreography and competitions, advanced or professional dancers will often do complicated air-steps. They've practiced for a long time, with proper safety technique. We think that's the proper time to learn air-steps, so never fear- your feet can stay safely on land!
My partner and I want to work together- do we have to rotate partners? While we don't require you to rotate, we think that you'll get the most out of the class by dancing with as many people as possible. It helps you learn the dance faster, and helps you meet the other people in the class. We suggest that you try one class rotating with other partners, and if you still want to work with only your partner, be our guest!
